About The Bible

The first part of the Bible (The Old Testament) describes how humanity became separated from God, and how God worked through the Jewish people to show us what he wants for the world.

In the second part (The New Testament) Jesus Christ comes as the world’s Saviour and, through his great self-sacrifice, restores all who believe in him to the fullness of God’s love.

Reading the Bible

Here are a few suggestions to help you get the most from reading the Bible.

Always ask yourself, “What is God saying to me through this passage?  How does it affect my life?”

Use a modern translation, like the New Revised Standard Version or the New Living Translation, in an edition which is comfortable to read and to hold.  Printed Bibles and Bible Apps are both good for reading.

It’s best to get to know the New Testament first.  Perhaps start with Luke’s gospel, and then move on to read Acts (of the Apostles).

Reading a little each day is a good habit to get into.  Some people find it helpful to follow the daily Bible reflections provided by lots of Apps and websites.

The Lion Handbook to the Bible provides good introductions to every book, illustrations, maps and feature articles, as well as short paragraphs explaining every section of the whole Bible.
